You should already have a valid visitor visa. We automatically issued a visitor visa to you when we approved your first study or work permit. If you leave and return to Canada, you must travel with your valid study or work permit, your valid visitor visa. Exception: If you return directly from a visit to the United States or St. Pierre and Miquelon only, you don’t need a valid visitor visa if your study or work permit is still valid. If your visa has expired or was only valid for a single entry to Canada, you need to apply for a new visitor visa or an eTA.

Whether you are travelling to Canada by air, land or sea, you must have a valid passport and travel documents. Visitors from Australia must show a passport or equivalent travel document to enter Canada. Most Australian citizens travelling for a short time don't need a visa, but do need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before flying to Canada. For detailed information on requirements and procedures for entering Canada, see the Government of Canada website.

Find out if you need a visa To find out if you need any visas for your trip, start by consulting our Travel advice and advisories page well before you plan to leave. Select your destination from the drop-down menu and consult the information on visas under “Entry and exit requirements”. You should then contact your destination’s embassy or consulate in Canada to confirm whether you need a visa to enter the country or stay for a longer period of time. Duration: If you plan to remain in a foreign country for a longer period (usually more than 90 days), you will almost certainly need a visa and should consult your destination’s travel advice to confirm. You may be denied entry if you do not have a visa when you arrive in a country that requires one. Consult your destination’s travel advice to confirm.

To enter or transit through Canada, most people need a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) – not both. You do not need a visa for short visits (normally up to 6 months). You may need an eTA instead. Check if you need a visa or an eTA online. Contact the Canadian High Commission in the UK if you are unsure about visa requirements or your eligibility to enter the country, for example, if you have a criminal record or have been arrested.

Do Dutch citizens need a Canada ETA? Yes, if you’re a Dutch citizen traveling to Canada by air, you will need an ETA. If you’re planning to travel to Canada by car, bus, train, or cruise ship, you’ll need to apply for a Canada Visitor Visa instead.
